Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Unlike
America, Haiti has no social security, life insurance, or Medicaid.
People tend to have large families, which they have difficulty supporting.
When a woman is widowed, it is likely that she will not be able to provide
for her children. Consequently, in Haiti there are many children on the
streets. Some are complete orphans, while others choose to roam the
streets since there is no food at home.
We started the House of Hope Orphanage in September of 2005.
There are seventeen children who live and attend school there, and receive a
Christian education both from the school teachers and from a pastor
who comes to the House of Hope each week.
